They will also have the opportunity to support the team in due diligence on M&A from a tax diligence and planning perspective.

The Vertus Group is seeking a highly motivated, action-oriented individual for the role of the Tax Manager within our Corporate team. They will be an integral part of The Vertus Finance team and will work closely with Jonas Corporate’s tax team. They will be responsible for a wide range of activities including Federal and State, income tax compliance and tax accounting. They will also have the opportunity to support the team in due diligence on M&A from a tax diligence and planning perspective.
The successful candidate will not be afraid to get into the details, demonstrate the ability to apply technical tax concepts, be highly analytical and have excellent communication skills. They are very organized, deadline focused and detail oriented in the documentation of their work. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the accurate and timely completion of the Canadian and U.S. corporate income tax returns including all the related analysis and work-papers.
- Review and perform quality assurance of quarterly current and deferred tax provisions and calculations for financial reporting, including the recognition of tax effects on various transactions and events.
- Conduct tax due diligence as part of the M&A process including identifying risks, mitigating factors, and overall tax structuring advice. Communicate with seller's representatives to address the tax issues identified in prior or post acquisitions.
- Participate in the integration of new acquisitions, including roll out of tax compliance processes, corporate financial systems, reporting requirements, and governance standards.
- Interface with tax authorities, including assisting in the coordination of tax audits and preparation of responses.
- Train and coach finance teams across all companies to ensure they are equipped to be tax compliant.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Jonas and CSI tax teams on best practices and policy updates.
- Lead tax research and planning assignments incorporating tax laws of multiple North American and foreign jurisdictions; including, but not limited to, basis calculations.
- Keep abreast of the latest tax developments and issues that impact the organization such as changes in legislation, court decisions, rulings etc.
- Assist with international tax planning and transfer pricing strategies.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA, CA Accounting designation
- Post-secondary degree with a major in accounting or finance
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience working in a tax role at a public accounting firm
- Completion of the CICA In-Depth tax program
- Experience in the preparation and review of the complex tax returns and in the preparation and review of tax provisions
- Experience in Canadian and/or U.S. Corporate income tax
- Experience with Software and Technology companies is an asset
- Strong working knowledge of computerized accounting systems, TaxPrep, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills with ability to adjust and respond professionally to changing priorities and ad hoc issues
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to interact with all levels of management
- Excellent interpersonal relations and ability to work with others effectively in a remote team environment
