Summary of Position
Cadre’s Transit division offers our clients technical rail service solutions including commissioning and testing of new transit vehicles, warranty repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspection services. Our Mechanical Technicians work with the leading Ontario transit suppliers and agencies, ensuring their equipment is available to provide reliable on time service to their passengers in some of North America’s largest transit systems.

The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for supporting the production and commissioning of Low Floor Light Rail Vehicles (LFLRVs) currently being manufactured in the Toronto Region. Our client is a major supplier to the OEM and requires multiple technicians on site to act as subject matter experts for the systems they have engineered and provided for the vehicle.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Retrofitting & mechanical assembly on Toronto train brakes and doors systems, HVAC and pantographs.
  • Responsible for both commissioning and testing mechanical and hydraulic system, sub-systems and components installed in the LFLRVs
  • Perform mechanical modifications from drawings, prints or wiring schematics on LFLRVs
  • Repair and install LFLRV parts such as switches, relays, wires, harnesses, panels, air valves, bearing, couplings, etc.
  • Document and report issues or changes in the work instructions to supervisor and engineering department
  • Complete functional testing on all completed modifications
Requirements
  • Completed Post-Secondary education in the field of Electro mechanical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited technical school or equivalent experience (this role is 80% mechanical/20% electrical)
  • Skilled in troubleshooting techniques and a complete understanding of electrical testing equipment
  • Hands on experience working with AC and DC power and control systems
  • Capable of reading and understanding electrical drawings and maintenance manuals
  • Experience with HVAC systems, metal fabrication or machining would be considered a strong asset
  • Strong communication skills and capable working with computers
  • Strong hand and power tool experience (socket wrenches, drive ratchet, screw driver, torque wrenches)
