Role Overview
Reporting to the Sr. Strategic Procurement Manager, the Strategic Procurement Specialist, is a results-oriented procurement professional with specialized expertise in the food and/or nutraceutical manufacturing industry, managing complex sourcing and supplier strategies across direct materials, co-packers, contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs), third-party logistics (3PL), and service providers. Proven ability to drive procurement excellence while ensuring compliance, quality, and supply continuity in highly regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Industry-Focused Strategic Sourcing: Develops and executes sourcing strategies tailored to the unique demands of food and nutraceutical production, balancing cost efficiency and value-added partnerships with stringent quality and safety standards.
- Supplier Relationship Management: Builds and manages strategic partnerships with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure consistent supply, innovation, and regulatory compliance.
- Contract Negotiation & Lifecycle Management: Leads negotiations and oversees the full lifecycle of contracts, ensuring favorable terms and alignment with industry-specific requirements.
- Market Intelligence & Spend Analysis: Conducts detailed market and spend analyses to identify cost-saving opportunities, monitor supplier performance, and support strategic planning.
- Risk & Compliance Management: Proactively mitigates supply chain risks and ensures adherence to industry regulations and corporate standards including SOX, S211, ESG, and CSR
- Continuous Improvement: Drives procurement process improvements through lean practices and cross-functional collaboration, enhancing efficiency and responsiveness
- Vendor Onboarding: Manages efficient onboarding of new suppliers and partners, ensuring alignment with food safety, quality, and operational protocols.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Procurement, Business Administration, Food Science, or a related field
- Professional certifications such as MCIPS, CSCL, CSCP, or CPIM are highly desirable
Experience:
- 3+ years of progressive experience in strategic procurement or supply chain roles, preferably within the food, nutraceutical, or CPG industries
- Demonstrated success in managing sourcing for direct materials, co-packers, CMOs, 3PLs, and service providers
- Experience in contract negotiation, supplier performance management, and cross-functional collaboration
Knowledge:
- Understanding of food and nutraceutical manufacturing processes, regulatory requirements, and quality standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP, FSMA)
- Expertise in strategic sourcing, contract lifecycle management, and supply market dynamics
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks including SOX, S211, ESG, and CSR
- Knowledge of risk management and business continuity planning
Skills:
- Self-starter mindset and can execute simultaneously while establishing the path
- Strong ability to assess complex procurement challenges, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective, data-driven solutions
- Skilled in spend analysis, market research, and developing sourcing strategies that align with business goals
- Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Capable of leading initiatives and managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment
- Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and data tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI)
- Experience with lean procurement practices and driving process optimization
- Efficient in onboarding suppliers while ensuring compliance with food safety and operational standards
