The PaqLab at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) is inviting applications for a PhD position (MSc candidates may also be considered) focused on the effects of tree diversity on forest functioning, with an emphasis on underlying mechanisms and spatial scales. This research will be conducted in collaboration with the global TreeDivNet network and the IDENT project.
Research Topics Include
– Investigating mechanisms such as plasticity and biomass allocation in the context of biodiversity effects on forests
– Studying tree species neighbourhood interactions over time
– Comparing permanent forest plot data with ecological modelling and LiDAR remote sensing
Responsibilities
– Mapping above-ground biomass using LiDAR (drone and airborne platforms)
– Conducting fieldwork at multiple sites in North America, Europe, and Africa
– Collaborating with an international team of researchers
Requirements
– Applicants should be eligible for PhD or MSc studies (MSc candidates will have a reduced scope of objectives)
