Job Description

WSP has an opportunity for a Technical Director to join our Remediation Program Management team based in Vancouver, British Columbia (open to other locations within British Columbia for the right candidate). The Remediation Program Management team is a national team serving large clients across Canada. We are known for providing top quality technical work to our clients, and as a result have a strong backlog of work. Many of our clients are long term clients that seek WSPs expertise in managing the assessment and remediation of their Sites. In this Technical Director (engineering, geoscience or other applicable background) role you would be responsible for technical direction of a large portfolio consisting of mostly downstream oil and gas Sites, with the potential to support with midstream and upstream Sites.

It is expected that you have demonstrable experience bringing complex contaminated sites to closure in British Columbia.

Responsibilities:

Review deliverables, including, but not limited to, Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments; Detailed Site Investigations; regulatory forms and submission documents; and other technical reporting such as background determinations, water use determinations, and screening level risk assessments.

Provide mentorship to Junior and Intermediate project managers, report authors and field staff.

Support Project Managers with technical presentations and communications with clients and regulators, as required.

Support leadership with client management and steward client objectives with the team.

Support leadership with Requests for Proposals, as required.

Complete Site visits to support our junior staff in the field.

Be a strong health and safety advocate and lead by example in the field and office.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in engineering, geoscience, or other relevant discipline.

10 – 15 years of experience providing Technical Direction of contaminated sites in British Columbia.

Eligible or immediately eligible to register as a Professional in British Columbia (i.e., P. Ag, P.Chem P.Eng, P.Geo, RPBio).

Strong and thorough understanding of the British Columbia Contaminated Sites Regulation, and Environmental Management Act; knowledge of the Alberta regulations as asset.

Demonstrable experience bringing sites to closure (submissions within the last three years).

Ability to apply to become a Contaminated Sites Approved Professional within one to two years of employment with WSP.

Strong mentoring abilities and a drive to help our junior and intermediate colleagues reach their potential.

A commitment to helping foster an inclusive team dynamic.

Good communication skills (listening, speaking, and writing).

Good problem-solving skills with the initiative and ability to identify alternative solutions.

Advanced skills (Microsoft application Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and PowerBI and Oracle).

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $110 000 - $140 000

WSP Canada is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it will pay for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to the specific geographic location.
