Quality Assurance / Quality Control Technician

Your Mission

The primary role of the QA/QC Technician position is providing overall assistance with Quality Control (QC) activities, testing required for the finished and raw materials within Puratos Canada Inc. and to support the Quality Assurance team with routine tasks and quality control testing. The QA/QC Technician is a member of the QA team and provides support to other roles within the department as required. This position may require staggered shifts, weekend and holiday rotations.

What You Will Do

Quality Control & Laboratory Operations

Preparing Samples

  • Receive and log into the quality system all samples submitted to external lab and follow-up with sample process flow.
  • Receive and/or collect samples and dispatches outside testing.
  • Prepare composites related to food products.
  • Prepares, produces, and completes paperwork on all samples.

Quality Control

  • Perform Daily Pre-operational checks and plant housekeeping.
  • Monitor and perform environmental monitoring program.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of laboratory areas and retention samples storage areas in a plant. Adhere to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • HACCP checks.
  • Dispose of laboratory waste.
  • Follow the plant specific Hold/Disposal/rework Procedure.
  • Assist with maintaining process quality controls. Document internal calibrations and verifications.
  • Record and enter data related to laboratory verification program I.E. Temperatures, weights.
  • Monitor inventories and expiry dates of use supplies. Contribute to inventory maintenance and supplies ordering.
  • Contribute with the writing, review, and completion of standard operating procedures and other document control documents.
  • Conducts Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) audits in accordance with the QA internal audit schedule. Identifies problems and bottlenecks related to GMP, and recommends solutions.
  • Complete required cleaning and sanitation according to laboratory hygiene and safety regulations and precautions. I.E. end of day cleaning, wiping down surfaces and sinks, product sample disposal, garbage disposal, and turning off equipment.
  • Facilitates positive release of products by reviewing batch documentation, ensuring products meet in-house and customer-specific requirements, and processes releases in the inventory and SAP system, file all production records on time.
  • Monitors ingredients shelf life and perform test according to specifications to be able to extend shelf life when necessary.
  • Supports the Puratos Foods` safety and quality system by implementing and following procedures, enforcing GMP requirements, and participating in training.

Safety & Environment

  • Follow all Occupational Health and Safety procedures related to the laboratory environment.
  • Act in accordance with company policies related to personal and group health and safety practices and procedures.

Document Control System

  • Maintains the document control and retrieval system for all production records, audits/inspections, employee training records, sanitation records, raw material documentations, etc.

Continuous Improvement

  • Engage in permanent and continuous learning by participating in laboratory internal or external training programs. Apply learning to work environment and role.

What We Expect From You

  • Bachelor of Science, or High school diploma and certificate in laboratory procedures, or high school diploma and one year experience in a Quality Control Laboratory preferably within a regulated, food or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with fluency in English language skills.
  • Capability to work in a team environment with varied departments and diverse personalities.
  • Highly detail oriented with good oral and written communication skills.
  • Manual dexterity. Able to lift 50 lbs. (22.68 kg)
  • Experience in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment.
  • Basic computer literacy I.E. Word, Excel, Email.
  • Proficient in MS Office
