Mission

We are looking for a Landscape Superintendent that will be responsible for overseeing and managing landscaping operations, including but not limited to safety, quality, administration, scheduling, cost controls, client/ subcontractor/ craft communication and management. They will manage all aspects of landscaping within the project, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Construction is in full compliance with the Project Agreement, including matters relating to quality, safety, environment, and life cycle performance, such as Project’s ECO Plan, Health and Safety Plan, and all applicable legislation.
  • Direct the planning and construction of the associated work including the design and procurement interfaces.
  • Representing MIP onsite – being visible, attending meeting, keeping subs & direct labour focused.
  • Responsible in overall safety aspect in the assigned area.
  • Ensuring schedule adherence for site crews, including subcontractors, within designated scope of work.
  • Ensuring materials, tools & equipment are onsite when needed, and off-hires when not needed.
  • Ensure maintenance of total quality performance standards, procedures and audit controls to meet project requirements.
  • Reporting any risks, delays & challenges to the Segment Manager.
  • Liaising with other supervision on site and management.
  • Participating and facilitating project meetings, providing updates on progress, schedule, cost and performance of the work.
  • Interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision, facilitating solutions to inquiries to the design team in cooperation with the Construction Field Coordinators and management group.
  • Attend daily prestart meetings with the crews, including subcontractors, recording names of attendees, confirm daily tasks and work to be completed.
  • Full participation in safety deliverables, including but not limited to inspections, near miss reporting, incident investigation, on boarding new staff, JHA/FLHA/SWP development.
  • Work with the Construction Field Coordination team to ensure that concrete, survey, quality, safety and Environmental inspections are booked and executed with accuracy.
  • Complete Daily reports in project control software and physical notes.
  • Establish and maintain the expected crew hours for specific tasks, ensure that shifts are not overrunning hours and maintain the budget with crew control measure.
  • Check and approve time sheets/FAs/T&M that are submitted, verify that hours match the intended duration.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Profile

  • Post secondary education in a construction related filed, or the equivalent work-related experience is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years in heavy civil construction landscaping experience, preferably in LRT or similar public infrastructure projects.
  • Proficient in Computer. Capable in handling computer-related tasks is preferable.
  • Good problem-solver, lead by example and respond to urgent requests in a timely manner.
  • Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Good understanding of plant biology inclusive of local plant and vegetation, pest management, irrigation systems, and landscape design.
  • Knowledge in City of Edmonton specification and regulations for landscaping is an asset.
  • Knowledge in Structural Soil Cell installation and operations is advantageous.
  • Valid Class 5 license

  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency at reading construction drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience with soil cells production.
  • Ability to negotiate the terrain of an in-process construction site, including climbing stairs and ladders, steep/ slippery terrain, walking, and working outdoors in all types of Edmonton weather and conditions.
