POSITION OVERVIEW

Working collaboratively with other team members, the Social Change Coordinator works with women accessing the Centre to create positive change in the community. Engaging in community development practices, this position supports women to create impact through various activities, events, and committees. The Social Change Coordinator empowers women to work towards improved conditions for women on issues including but not limited to: housing and homelessness, childcare, gender-based violence, economic empowerment, and wellness. Additionally, this role maintains an up-to-date understanding of various social issues, sharing information to build capacity and community among interested internal and external parties.


KEY DUTIES

  • Engage with diverse women to identify change priorities, solutions, and approaches for action.
  • Support capacity building and leadership development for diverse women; fostering leadership opportunities on an ongoing basis.
  • Plan and implement activities, group sessions, and committees.
  • Represent the Women’s Centre in the community, working collaboratively with interested external parties.
  • Analyze and synthesize information on various social issues, using this information to inform advocacy and programming.
  • Ensure daily and weekly statistics are collected and documented in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment and a culture of psychological safety.
  • Build effective relationships with people accessing the Centre, volunteers, and supporters of the Centre.
  • Support the overall successful functioning of the Centre.
  • Participate in activities related to equity, diversity, and inclusion as well as Truth and Reconciliation.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in public policy, social work, or gender studies. A combination of experience and education in a related area will be considered.
  • Registration and membership in good standing with a regulatory body (if appropriate).
  • Five plus years of experience working in a community-based setting. Familiarity with trauma-informed care is an asset.
  • Experience facilitating group programming.
  • Working knowledge of best practices for community development.
  • Political acumen.
  • Strong research and analysis skills.
  • Nuanced understanding of the issues facing women and girls.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Bilingualism is an asset.


WORKING CONDITIONS

The Women’s Centre is a storefront community centre operating in an open environment. This role will require attendance and participation in off-site meetings and events in the community. This position requires some evening and weekend work.
