Position Information
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is responsible for the improvement of clinical outcomes for related patient populations through the effective application of advanced nursing practices, expanded or enhanced scope of practice, program planning and delivery, consultation, research, education, efficient resource utilization, and effective leadership.

What You Will Do
- Provide team supervision, workload assignment and determine methodology.
- Responsible for human resource management including hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline of a small team.
- Provides clinical expertise and oversees clinical practice and overall team policies and procedures.
- Works collaboratively with the Medical Director in a dyad model.
- Manages budgets and resources as required.
- Leads organizational change through the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programs that ensure quality of care and application of best practices within a clinical specialty.
- Shares expertise provides consultation and collaboration within the team and beyond the boundaries of the organization into regional, provincial, and national communities in areas of specialization.
- Demonstrates a commitment to generating, synthesizing, critiquing and applying research evidence.
- Registered nurse with master¿s preparation in nursing preferred or masters degree in a related discipline with an undergraduate degree in nursing;
- Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Member of the RNAO;
- Minimum of three (3) years recent specialized geriatric experience in acute care and/or community settings;
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge and expertise in specialized geriatrics and gerontology;
- Demonstrated understanding of innovative models of service delivery in care of the elderly;
- Previous research skills, studies, and evaluation experience;
- Previous adult education/program development experience;
- Knowledge of computers including MS Office;
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and decision-making skills;
- Demonstrated leadership ability;
- Expert communicator;
- Advanced knowledge of the consultation process as they relate to individuals, groups and/or systems;
- Knowledge of the regional and provincial health care systems, as it pertains to geriatrics;
- Ability to learn and apply hospital policy and procedures, relative legislation, collective agreements, Canadian Hospital Accreditation Standards, Professional Disciplines Standards for Ontario.
- CNA Certification in Gerontology;
- Minimum of (1) year of leadership experience;
- Proficiency in speaking and comprehending both English and French level A-.
