Senior Quantum Engineers (Calibration) at Photonic are part of the Quantum Systems Integration team, and are responsible for defining calibration frameworks, routines and automations for our quantum processors. The Quantum Systems Integration team defines, integrates and operates Photonic’s quantum computers. Your expertise in creating calibration automations and a system manager framework is essential for the development of quantum computers that provide commercial value.
This role will work on the definition and implementation of automation and frameworks for today’s systems and on the path to Photonic’s fault-tolerant utility-scale distributed quantum hardware. Your work will influence directly how our quantum computer is used and operated.
You'll work closely with high-performing teams of scientists, product engineers, and business units on a range of topics. You will enjoy the thrill of learning new technology and new science, while bringing your significant algorithm development knowledge, open mind, and creativity to tackle key challenges as we build the world’s first truly scalable quantum computing system.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
- Define and extend quantum processor calibration algorithms, automations and infrastructure
- Define requirements for a system manager and operating system that makes our quantum computers work at scale, covering system bringup, self-test and calibration, job management, and access control
- Develop implementation roadmaps in accordance with the larger company roadmap and current system requirements
- Closely work with the photonic software team to align requirements and implementation details
- Foster adoption of above mentioned frameworks across different user groups
- Integrate, test, and run Photonic quantum computers
- Write professional code to interface with quantum hardware
- Take part in generating reports, drafting patents, and writing peer-reviewed articles reporting advances where applicable
- Collaborate across diverse teams of technical experts
- Effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM
- PhD or MSc in physics, engineering, computer science, or equivalent education, with 5+ years of relevant experience in academia or industry. Quantum background is a plus.
- Excellent coding skills in python and ability to work in shared code repositories; software industry experience is a plus.
- Ability to design and manage complex, integrated software systems.
- Experience with system architecture, requirements engineering and interface definition.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to express complex technical concepts in a clear and easy-to-understand way
- Problem-solving skills and ability to resolve ambiguous requirements
- Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems, prioritize, and manage simultaneous tasks
- Outstanding teamwork skills

The base annual salary range for this full-time role is between $138,000 to $190,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salary across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside of this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's qualifications including relevant education and training, competencies, experience, geographic location, and business needs. Base pay is only one part of the total compensation package. Full time roles are eligible for equity and benefits. Base pay is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
