The business solutions architect works closely with business stakeholders and technology teams to find solutions to business problems and guide the process from idea inception, through functional and technology requirements, to delivery.

This position will assist the manager, business systems design and implementations with translating individual business unit needs into enterprise applications map, forming solutions architecture, and solidifying the technology vision of the solutions.

As a technology product owner, the business solutions architect will be choosing the right technology for business problems and play a pivotal role throughout the systems development lifecycle: from developing business requirements, work plans and technical specifications, to implementation and staying involved in future updates to the solution.

What You Do

  • Conduct research and analyze how and which technologies can be used to solve business problems. Define and recommend what framework, platform, or technical stack can be used to create a solution. Design and envision how the applications will look, what the modules will be, and how they will interact with each other.
  • Provides input to the business planning and participates in the project planning process.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and/or enhancements opportunities of existing business applications and processes; implement these improvements through effective leadership and engagement of others.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to identify and validate specific business needs, create the technology and business requirements.
  • Utilize artifacts such as business requirements documents (BRDs), JIRA, data analysis and Business Process Documentation, facilitates requirements alignment sessions.
  • Create technical specifications for delivering customer solutions.
  • Produce documentation to aid in the understanding of existing architecture solutions
  • Provide technical leadership as it relates to developing strategy, scalability, performance, architecture and overall high-level design to ensure solution quality.
  • Oversee consultants to develop and implement solutions aligned with agreed upon specifications.
  • Lead the project close out and lessons learned activities to validate solutions with the business to ensure delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Identify integration opportunities and overlaps among VFPA business applications; recommend improvements and enhancements. Resolve application and data integration issues as required


What You Bring

  • A post-secondary degree in computer science, business administration or another acceptable area
  • A minimum of five years related experience, including recent proven leadership on creating technology solutions for business problems, business analysis, project management and business and technology requirement gathering in complex business environments.
  • Experience working with both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies is required, and well as proficiency in tools like Visio, draw.io, Jira, and SharePoint.
  • Must value maintaining their technology skills and act proactively to stay on top of advances in areas of expertise.
  • Must have demonstrated experience with the following:
  • o Experience working with both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies is required
  • o Proficiency in tools like Visio, draw.io, Jira, and SharePoint
  • o Cloud data platforms (Azure and AWS) along with on-premises data integration.
  • o Understanding of on-premises and on cloud dashboard deployments.
  • o Experience working as a solution technology owner on ServiceNow platform.
  • o Complex technical and architectural documentation skills.
  • o Conceptual understanding of and exposure to modern programming languages, data management, analysis and reporting tools
  • The following will be considered assets:
  • o Experience with supporting or creating solutions for finance and accounting systems.
  • o Exposure to other no-code/low-code platforms such as Microsoft Powerautomate/PowerApps, OpenText AppWorks, etc
  • o Experience with data management platforms, IOT Integration and analytics projects.
  • o Development and programming experience/exposure.
  • o Data security principles, efficiency, quality, and governance.
