A Quality Inspector role with a strong focus on surface finish involves meticulously examining and evaluating the texture, appearance, and other surface characteristics of products or components to ensure they meet specified standards and requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Visual Inspection: Conducting thorough visual inspections to detect defects such as cracks, scratches, discoloration, or other imperfections affecting the surface finish.
  • Surface Finish Measurement: Using specialized tools and techniques to measure and verify the surface roughness, waviness, and lay (the dominant direction of surface patterns) of the inspected item.
  • Tool Usage: Proficiency in utilizing various inspection tools, including:
    • Surface Roughness Testers: Instruments specifically designed to measure surface roughness parameters like Ra and Rz.
    • Profilometers: Devices that measure surface topography by tracing the surface with a stylus.
    • Micrometers and Calipers: For precise dimensional measurements, potentially including those related to surface features.
    • Blueprint and Specification Interpretation: Reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering specifications, and drawings to understand the required surface finish parameters.
  • Compliance Verification: Ensuring that the surface finish of the inspected item aligns with relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO, ASME, ASTM), company specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Accurately recording inspection findings, including detailed descriptions of any surface finish deviations or defects.
    • Generating reports to document inspection results, analyze data, and propose corrective actions.
Work Experience

What You Will Bring:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, with technical training or relevant certifications preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a Quality Inspection role, especially within a manufacturing environment or industry requiring specific surface finish expertise (e.g., metal fabrication, automotive, aerospace, or coatings).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in using surface finish measuring instruments and interpreting results.
    • Strong understanding of surface finish standards and their application (e.g., ISO, ASME).
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
    • Familiarity with quality control processes and procedures.
Pay Range: 60,000 CAD - 90,000 CAD

Location: Oakville, ON Canada

Work Requirements

This role is considered an on-site position located in Oakville-ON

  • You must be able to commute to and from the location with your own transportation arrangements to meet the required working hours.
  • Shop floor environment, which may include but not limited to extensive walking, and ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Travel requirements: Due to the nature of the work, 10% of travel is required.
