Detailed Overview

In accordance with the BC College of Social Workers standards of practice, Fraser Health's vision, mission and values, and the strategic plan of Fraser Health, the Educator provides education, orientation and training to other health professionals. Provides clinical and educational support, and plans, implements and evaluates educational activities and programs, and assists with the implementation of social work competencies. As a clinical resource, supports complex or challenging referrals/discharges, collaborates with other healthcare providers, and gathers information for ongoing quality improvement and review.

Responsibilities

  • Determines education priorities that meet program and health professionals' learner needs; completes learning needs assessments of individuals or groups to assist in the determination of the educational requirements and their objectives.
  • Develops, plans and revises educational and orientation activities and programs, including online learning, based on clinical evidence, policy (e.g. clinical decision support tools), literature and resources, and education theory.
  • Creates supportive and interprofessional learning environments; utilizes education theory and builds strong professional relationships with learners in order to facilitate open communication. Ensures information dissemination of educational resources and opportunities.
  • Delivers learner-centered education to various health professionals, health care team members, and clients/caregivers through methods such as teaching, role modeling, demonstrating, mentoring, coaching, facilitating groups, providing lectures, and conducting formal presentations, including both in person and virtual formats.
  • Plans and schedules educational activities and maintains a system for tracking attendance; maintains statistics for reporting purposes.
  • Evaluates education effectiveness by measuring the outcomes, determining whether the clinical objectives have been achieved, and assessing whether learning has occurred that results in the demonstration of best practice.
  • Serves as a Social Work clinical resource for complex or challenging clients or situations and supports complex referrals/discharges such as client behavioural challenges. Develops tools to enhance the exchange of information among staff and collaborates with clinical leaders and health care team members.
  • May provide assessment and intervention services in support of programs.
  • Participates in quality improvement and risk management activities by methods such as evaluating effect of changes in practice, and generating recommendations for alternative approaches.
  • Participates in research and special projects; promotes staff awareness and involvement in research activities.
  • Participates on a variety of designated professional or operational committees.
  • Participates in the review, development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed clinical decisions support tools/policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers.

Three (3) years' recent related clinical experience in a health care environment, including one (1) year in a teaching or supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Ability to teach, mentor and promote teamwork, within individual and group settings.
  • Ability to coordinate, develop and deliver education programs that meet objectives and that promote best practice.
  • Ability to implement education based on changing practices, e.g. service delivery model changes.
  • Ability to foster effective teaching and learning relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders in preparing training and programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to advise health care teams on complex clients or situations.
  • Ability to conduct psychosocial assessments.
  • Ability to problem solve and effectively deal with conflict situations.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in a continuously changing environment.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including related software applications and including virtual software such as Zoom and MS Teams.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
