The Geohazards and Geomorphology team is made up of dedicated specialists that use expert knowledge, principles and practice in geohazards, Earth surface processes, and landforms to assist clients achieve economic, environmental and safety goals by recognizing and minimizing the impact of terrain constraints, mitigating hazards, reducing risk, and providing engineered solutions.
Our team gathers professionals with specific background and experience in slope hazards, erosion processes, water crossing assessment, ecohydraulics, terrain mapping, hazard and risk mapping (qualitative and quantitative), image analysis and interpretation, GIS analysis, surface water and debris flow modelling. Our current clients include pipeline, power generation, mining, and forest companies, as well as municipal, provincial and federal governments, and First Nations.
We are fully supported by geotechnical, civil and hydrotechnical engineers, hydrologists/water resource specialists, biologists and environmental specialists recognized locally and around the world for their expertise.
This position will report to the Manager of Geohazards and Geomorphology and will be responsible for supporting the execution of geohazard projects.
Candidates will ideally be based in southern or interior British Columbia. However, we will consider other locations in western Canada if desired.

Expected compensation for this role is between $91,900 - $126,400 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.

Your Role Within The Team
- Study the effects of landsliding, erosion, sedimentation and neo-tectonic activity on the landscape.
- Record and interpret geological and geomorphological information from maps, reports, stratigraphic logs, air photographs, satellite imagery, geological surveys and other sources.
- Participate in the study and mitigation of hazards including floods and landslides.
- Prepare geomorphological maps, diagrams, cross-sections and reports from field and office studies.
- Support the development of proposals in response to client requests for expertise, develop relationships with clients that are based on knowledge, experience and trust.
- Conduct geohazard risk assessments for linear infrastructure (e.g., pipelines, roads, railways), mining operations, and natural resource projects.
- Liase with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to communicate findings and recommendations, and, Fieldwork involves periods of time away from home. This may include long hours, working on remote locations and rustic conditions.

- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree from a relevant Engineering or Earth Sciences program with specific education, training or experience in geomorphology and geohazards.
- Registered (or qualified to register) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists in Alberta, British Columbia and/or Saskatchewan.
- Ten years or more of relevant experience in applied geomorphology, related to the assessment of geotechnical and hydrotechnical hazards.
- Demonstrated experience in understanding terrain models and specialized training in at least one aspect of Geomorphology, Engineering Geology or similar.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce reports and proposals.
- Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- M.Sc./M.Eng., degree in a field complimentary to current staff expertise.
- Proficient at statistical and analytical methods of analysis with emphasis on quantitative methods in geomorphology.
- An understanding of geotechnical investigation and material testing techniques, procedures and reporting standards.
- Be familiar with the analysis of geotechnical data and preparation of slope stability models.
- Expertise using specialized equipment and/or software (LiDAR, Geophysical tools, Satellite image interpretation software, GIS software, survey equipment, geological or geotechnical modelling software etc.) and willingness to take responsibility for those skills, including training other staff to use them.
