This role assists with Closer to Home’s internal and external communication efforts by supporting and managing day-to-day content production. The Communications Specialist generates original and engaging multimedia content for various platforms to support Closer to Home’s storytelling, which showcases impact, uplifts community voices, and drives engagement and brand awareness.
Responsibilities
Administration positions at Closer to Home Community Services require 5 competencies: Optimizes Work Process, Interpersonal Savvy, Action Oriented, Self Development and Tech Savvy in addition to the CTH Price of Admission Competencies: Instills Trust, Person Focus, Communicates Effectively, Situational Adaptability and Ensures Accountability.

This role assists with Closer to Home’s internal and external communication efforts by supporting and managing day-to-day content production. The Communications Specialist generates original and engaging multimedia content for various platforms to support Closer to Home’s storytelling, which showcases impact, uplifts community voices, and drives engagement and brand awareness.
Responsibilities
- Generate written, visual or video content for various digital platforms, reports, campaigns or donor communications (social media, posters, website, blogs, newsletters, internal communications)
- Create authentic content to reflect the voices and experiences of individuals and communities served.
- Research industry-relevant topics and trends to create timely and engaging content for those we serve and those who support our work.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to align content with the agency's strategic objectives.
- Edit and proofread content to ensure quality and brand voice consistency
- Create and maintain a content calendar for LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook and meet publishing deadlines, while ensuring content is accessible, inclusive and aligned with Closer to Home’s vision and mission. As well as managing social media accounts (responding to comments, interacting with agency-partners, posting live content when applicable)
- Support day-to-day communication/marketing activities, including drafting media releases, newsletters, social media content, donor communications and internal/external communications.
- Support communication efforts for events, including planning and executing communication strategies before, during, and after events.
- Assist with promotional materials, media outreach, and internal communications related to events.
- Degree or diploma in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in a communications setting.
- Experience in writing and producing content for digital platforms.
- Strong storytelling and visual communication skills.
- Photography and videography skills are considered an asset.
- Well-versed in content creation tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro), Canva, Hootsuite and Constant Contact.
- Proficiency in the Google Suite.
- A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and an Intervention Record Check must be completed prior to commencement.
- This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. Candidates must show proof of a class 5 Alberta driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year drivers abstract. Candidates must also agree to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle, and consent to the possibility of an annual driver's abstract review to meet our insurance provider’s requirements. Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guidelines and CTH policy.
