Our client is a long-standing civil contractor known for delivering high-quality infrastructure projects across the Lower Mainland. They’re looking for an Assistant Controller to join their accounting team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys leadership, process improvement, and being hands-on with the numbers. The right person will bring a strong understanding of accounting principles and a collaborative approach to mentoring others.


Responsibilities


You’ll lead and support the accounting function, working closely with operations and head office. The role includes oversight of budgeting, project costing, compliance, and financial reporting, as well as ongoing mentorship of the accounting team. Key tasks include:

  • Lead and support the accounting team across AP, AR, budgeting, and project costing
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, statements, forecasts, and budgets
  • Oversee month-end close and support internal and external audits
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, accounting standards, and internal controls
  • Provide financial insight to project managers and operations leaders
  • Support billing, collections, and cash management activities
  • Maintain and improve accounting processes and policies
  • Mentor and train junior accounting staff


Requirements


  • CPA designation or active CPA candidate
  • Strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and audit support
  • Comfortable working in a leadership capacity within an accounting team
  • Excellent communication skills and analytical thinking
  • Working knowledge of IFRS and Canadian tax laws
  • Ability to manage deadlines and maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office
  • Experience in the construction or project-based industries
