The Senior Manager, Development and Operations, Thermal Energy will report to the Vice President, OEC Renewables. The incumbent will execute the organizational strategy and lead operational excellence and the development lifecycle of low carbon thermal energy projects.

This position is a hybrid between working in office and travel related to the development and execution of multiple projects.

Position Focus

The role brings subject matter expertise in the low carbon thermal energy space in the building and industrial sector. The role is responsible for managing all aspects of project development, engineering and execution along with management of a portfolio of operating geo-exchange assets. The role also provides thought leadership, market insights in the low carbon thermal energy space and helps guide overall company growth and operating strategy.

This role is expected to have a meaningful business impact specific to continued business growth through greenfield development, partnerships and operational excellence

Accountabilities

  • Develop low carbon thermal energy projects across Canada with a focus on Ontario, project can include Geo-exchange, sewer heating recovery, low carbon district energy
  • Lead all aspects of development and execution of projects
  • Manage a portfolio of existing operational projects
  • Foster relationships with new and existing customers
  • Foster and sustain effective project and business performance processes and key performance indicators

Required Qualifications

  • A university degree in environmental sciences, engineering, business commerce or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Leadership presence and superior sales, customer service and relationship management skills
  • Ability to think strategically and manage multiple and complex projects in parallel
  • Strong knowledge and ability to manage all aspects of development and a portfolio of operating projects
  • Knowledge of building codes and experience engineering building and community energy systems
  • A strong appreciation and knowledge of the thermal energy sector and regulatory frameworks
  • In depth understanding of industry regulatory environment, industry safety regulations and requirements

Work Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in engineering, development and operations of low carbon energy systems preferably geo-exchange, sewer heating systems, thermal energy networks, heat pumps and district energy system
  • Experience in feasibility, project development and operations of low carbon thermal energy technologies
  • Demonstrated hands on experience in developing low carbon energy projects with experience managing all aspects of origination, development and execution
  • Demonstrated sales and operational experience with clear focus on customer service
