The City of Camrose is seeking an energetic and reliable individual to fill the permanent position of Operator 4 in the Roads section of the Public Works department. This is a unionized position under CUPE Local 1425 and is inclusive of a probationary period as per the Article 11.02 of the Collective Agreement.

FUNCTIONS/DUTIES (but Not Limited To)

  • Operate and perform minor maintenance on a large grader (2023 Cat 140 AWD joystick control).
  • Work in all related areas of the Roads operations, which includes but not limited to: snow removal, road maintenance, traffic control, equipment maintenance.
  • Safely operate and maintain equipment such as single/tandem axle trucks, front-end loaders, skid steer and tool cat, plows or sweeper, self-propelled road packers, small self-propelled machines such as sweepers and/or snowplow equipment, equipment trailers, asphalt grinding, spray patch, tarring and a hot box, etc.
  • Perform basic manual labour using hands or common labour tools, complex hand held and affixed power tools and machines, light maintenance to equipment and vehicles.
  • Set-up and work within a traffic zone.
  • May supervise and direct daily work of other employees.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience and educational background with various aspects of Roads operations are considered an asset (i.e. roadway maintenance, equipment operations and general maintenance, etc.).
  • Extensive grader experience and applicable courses/training.
  • Formal supervisory training considered an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with the public and contractors in a professional manner.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Reliable with a strong work ethic with the ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Must be able to meet the City’s “on-call protocols” and will be required to participate in the on-call rotation within the Roads team.
  • Ability to exert moderate physical activity and work outside in all types of weather and environmental conditions year round.
  • Valid Class 3 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with air brake endorsement.

HOURS OF WORK: Hours of work are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shift work, on-call and overtime will also be necessary to address operational requirements.

HOURLY WAGE: $34.25 per hour in accordance with the CUPE 1425 Collective Agreement.
