This role allows you to explore different areas of practice such as medicine, surgery, and psychiatry, gaining valuable experience in each. You’ll become a versatile and highly sought-after nurse, equipped to provide exceptional care across a wide range of patient needs. Many RNs find their experience on the NRT to be invaluable in helping to identify a “home” unit that aligns best with their unique interests.
About Our Nursing Resource Team
The NRT plays a crucial role in meeting the dynamic patient needs within the hospital. As an agile team, they are dedicated to providing essential support when last-minute RN staffing needs arise, ensuring uninterrupted quality care for patients. The NRT supports various inpatient areas, including General Internal Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry, and the Emergency Department. Registered Nurses on this team receive specialized orientation and training to effectively support medicine and surgical units.

In This Role You Will
- Provide direct patient care across multiple units, including assessments, interventions, and medication administration
- Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in responding to changing patient needs and unit priorities
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, allied health professionals, patients, and families to deliver comprehensive care
- Utilize your critical thinking skills to make sound clinical judgments and provide a high standard of care in diverse settings
- Embrace ongoing learning opportunities to expand your skill set and maintain current knowledge of best practices
- Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment, fostering teamwork and collaboration among colleagues
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Mandatory
- Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
- 1 year recent adult medical surgical nursing experience
- Previous clinical experience working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses
- A baccalaureate degree from a CNO-approved nursing program. Applicants in their final year or near completion will be considered
- Sound knowledge base in:
- Pain (PCA, epidural, CADD) and symptom management
- Skin and wound care
- IV therapy / TPN / chest tube care / ostomy care
- Commitment to professional practice and personal development
- Commitment to shared leadership and team based decision making
- Demonstrated excellent critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to patient and family centred care
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
