Due to continuing growth, we are seeking a Project Controls Specialist for our Ontario Region located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ontario, Canada. This individual is a fully qualified professional with thorough knowledge in planning, scheduling, cost controlling and risk management within a consulting engineering environment.
The Project Controls Specialist will work within Ontario’s Regional Project Management Office (PMO) to provide cost and schedule analytical support to several sector group Project Managers (PM’s) across the Ontario Region. The type of support will be dependent upon the project needs and will be provided both in person and through remote means.

Who are we looking for?
Due to continuing growth, we are seeking a Project Controls Specialist for our Ontario Region located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ontario, Canada. This individual is a fully qualified professional with thorough knowledge in planning, scheduling, cost controlling and risk management within a consulting engineering environment.
The Project Controls Specialist will work within Ontario’s Regional Project Management Office (PMO) to provide cost and schedule analytical support to several sector group Project Managers (PM’s) across the Ontario Region. The type of support will be dependent upon the project needs and will be provided both in person and through remote means.
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Responsible for implementing all project control aspects of the project or portfolio of projects including Scheduling, Cost Control, Change Management, Risk Management in accordance with GHD policies and procedures and good industry practices. Strong grasp in Project Measurement and Earned Value principles is important.
- Take a hands-on approach to all or portions of the project controls functions depending on project complexity and staff assigned.
- Works closely with the PM on all major project functions, with a primary focus on managing and providing support on the project controls functions.
- Makes recommendations on the financial, scheduling and other implications of the project to ensure project KPI’s are met or exceeded.
- Reviews with the PM, Design Manager and Discipline Leads the budget and schedule on a regular basis, identifying gaps and providing solutions to achieving the scope, budget and schedule requirements.
- Make recommendations on change notices in compliance with best practice change management techniques.
- Works effectively with the finance department, especially the project administrators, to ensure project budgets and invoices are accurate and coordinates with the PM to ensure invoices are issued to the client.
- Implements coaching or mentoring on best practice project controls processes within the project team or with other project controls staff as required.
- Bachelor’s (B.Sc.) degree or equivalent diploma from a recognized college or university with a minimum of ten years broad and extensive technical, administrative and project experience; minimum 10 years working within project controls within a design / engineering environment.
- Experience in providing project controls/services for design delivery for larger, multi-discipline engineering projects specifically for industrial/process plants, facilities, or buildings; from design inception through to construction completion.
- Demonstrated experience working and/or managing the project controls (Both scheduling and cost control) functions with hands on experience on the following:
- Detailed knowledge of scheduling methods, cost control processes, risk management procedures
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing project metrics including but not limited to earned value, CPI, SPI
- Detailed understanding of project controls as it applies to a design environment in different project types (DB, DBB, PDB, IPD).
- Detailed understanding of the implementation and coordination of project control systems not limited to P6, Acumen Fuse (or similar)
- High level of proficiency and experience with cost analysis (eg. MS Excel) and planning scheduling (eg. MS Project or Primavera P6) tools, including the porting of data from EC industry ERP or cost accounting systems.
- Experience with project dashboarding using Power BI.
- The ability to deal with uncertainty, changing and multiple priorities.
- Team building, staff management and mentoring skills.
- Forensic scheduling competence considered an asset.
- PMP, PMI or similar qualifications is considered an asset.
