A day in the life:
- Technical Writing
- Develop and maintain a wide range of technical documentation collateral, including user manuals, installation guides, training materials, data sheets, and online help systems.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other subject matter experts to gather, understand, and articulate complex technical information.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop best practices for creating instructional collateral for both internal and external use.
- Become proficient in product purpose and operation to enable the translation of complex technical concepts into clear and concise language suitable for diverse audiences.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, consistent, clear and up-to-date.
- Conduct reviews and edits to improve the quality and effectiveness of documentation.
- Technical Illustration
- Create diagrams, flowcharts, and other illustrations to effectively convey and clarify technical concepts.
- Ensure that illustrations are accurate, clear, and consistent with the overall documentation style.
- Content Writing, Coordination and Management
- Curate and / or write customer-facing content pieces, such as white papers, case studies and blogs
- Organize and manage a full collection of technical product information collateral including, the principle product specification database, customer-facing knowledge base, and internal knowledge base.
- Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Collaborate with project teams to coordinate documentation efforts and ensure timely delivery.
- Track and report on project progress and identify potential issues.
- Propose, develop, and implement best-practice improvements to documentation processes, methods and tools, including incorporating AI in workflows to enhance the final product.
- Subject Matter Expertise
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements.
- Develop a deep understanding of seismology concepts and technologies.
- 5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer in the high-tech industry.
- Strong technical writing skills with a proven ability to write clear, concise, and accurate documentation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to understand complex technical concepts and translate them into clear and concise language.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, and a commitment to quality.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in authoring tools, illustration software, knowledge base development, AI and project management tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe Suite, JIRA, and Zendesk).
- Diploma in technical writing or a Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, industrial design or a related field.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for technical communication.
- Experience writing technical documentation for sensors or other electronic devices preferred.
- Experience with single-sourcing, content management systems, XML authoring and publishing, and proficiency in diagram creation.
- Background in technical communication, journalism, engineering, physics, seismology, geophysics, or a related field.
