Purpose of Role: Weir Marine Engineering is currently looking for a permanent full-time Above Water Warfare Modeling and Simulation Specialist to join our Combat and Control Systems (CCS) team at the Canadian Forces Maritime Warfare Centre (CFMWC) in Halifax, NS. This position would work as part of a larger team that serves as Canadian Forces’ premier center for the analysis of Naval systems for the purpose of improving the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN).
This permanent position provides a range of modeling and simulation (M&S) services to support tactical development for both the current Halifax-class Frigates and the future River Class Destroyers. This position is suitable both for entry level applicants and those with prior job experience as the work requires building a specialized technical skill set and unique subject matter expertise not common to most working environments.

Since 1953, Weir Canada, Inc. has operated and managed the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE), a Department of National Defence (DND) facility located in Montreal with operations in Halifax, Victoria and Ottawa/Gatineau. Over 400 personnel are currently employed by Weir at NETE, supporting the Royal Canadian Navy and DND with test and evaluation services in a wide variety of technical areas.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform warfare relevant model-based engineering studies for CFMWC;
- Use and maintain M&S tools on the CFMWC computation cluster for the purpose of combat system effectiveness analysis;
- Inform and advise RCN on priorities of relevant M&S developments;
- Facilitate and participate in technical workshops on national and international levels;
- Collaborate with M&S tool developers and combat system subject matter experts both in industry and government organizations; and
- Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
- Mandatory: Must obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which necessitates Canadian citizenship and a minimum of 10 years of continuous residence in Canada.
- Mandatory: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/ Computer/ Aerospace Engineering, Applied Science, or equivalent is required, while a Master’s degree or above is highly desirable. Course work, project work, and/or job experience in research and data science/analysis related topics is also desirable;
- Required: Excellent research, organizational, and communication skills for managing own project sets and collaborating with internal and external technical and non-technical groups;
- Required: Willingness to work in a military environment (working alongside both active and retired service members, Public Service members including Defence Scientists) and to support the organizational and ethical values of the Department of National Defense;
- Required: Commitment to learning on the job and growing with the position, including taking online courses and traveling to other countries for training, conferences, and working groups; and
- Optional: Experience in Combat Systems Engineering, naval warfare, and/or operational knowledge of military shipboard systems is a highly desirable asset.
