Assistant Professor (Research), Department of Microbiology & Immunology - #441006
McGill School of Biomedical Sciences

Position Description
The McGill University Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Mark Wainberg Centre for Viral Diseases in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in partnership with the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (LDI) at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) is inviting applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Research) in the dynamic field of fundamental immunology at the interface of host-virus interactions. The role includes establishing an independent research program, supervising students, and the possibility of obtaining memberships in additional departments alongside the primary appointment. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is part of the School of Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The LDI is the research arm of the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) which is affiliated with the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal (CCOMTL) and is part of the McGill Integrated University Health Network. Over the years, the LDI has attracted outstanding investigators with recognized excellence in areas such as Cancer Therapeutics, Molecular Oncology, Cell and Gene Therapy, AIDS/HIV, Aging, Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease, Clinical Epidemiology, and Psychosocial Aspects of Disease. In addition to being embedded in an innovative and creative research environment of more than 200 researchers, the successful candidate’s research program will benefit from state-of-the-art core facilities and the on-site JGH Bioportal including the diverse biobanks and clinical teams which are valuable resources to study host responses to viral infections.
Membership across the LDI, Mark Wainberg Centre for Viral Diseases, and the McGill University Department of Microbiology and Immunology provides exciting opportunities for collaboration with faculty in each, as well as in the McGill Interdisciplinary Institutes of Infection and Immunity (MI4), the research institute at the McGill University Health Network, and the broader McGill research community.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a productive independent research program that aims to understand and discover mitigating strategies of viral diseases through elucidating the complex host responses to viral infections, which may include but not be limited to:
- Emerging and pandemic viruses;
- Innate immune responses;
- Antibody responses;
- Cellular immune responses;
- Immuno-metabolism;
- Genomic/proteomic aspects of host response;

They will also be provided a competitive startup package and structured mentorship to support the launching of their research program.
The successful candidate will be expected to be an emerging research leader capable of launching independent research programs focused on fundamental immunology and the host response to viruses.
The incumbent will also be expected to establish and carry out a cutting-edge and externally funded research program that integrates with existing strengths within the LDI and the Department Microbiology and Immunology.
The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students, residents, post-doctoral fellows, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
