Join Alectra as the Director of System Control, where you'll lead a dynamic group responsible for the seamless operation of Alectra’s distribution system. This role is pivotal in driving the strategic goals of the company through innovative system development and process enhancement, ensuring 24/7 operational excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Provides leadership and guidance to highly skilled technical employees in the safe and reliable operation of the Alectra’s distribution system under normal and emergency conditions on a 24/7 basis.
  • Accountable for System Control’s quick and effective response to customer power outages and the safe and expeditious restoration of power to the customer.
  • Establishes a high-performance culture to ensure high levels of productivity, accountability, quality and customer service.
  • Translates organization strategy into annual business plans and budgets and manages resources accordingly.
  • Provides overall people leadership and direction through coaching, development, performance management and resource planning.
  • Provides leadership and is accountable for System Control operations during emergency events related to the operation of Alectra’s distribution system.
  • Accountable for the coordination of activities and outages on transformer station / transmission lines and distribution equipment with Hydro One/IESO and other Alectra departments to ensure all work is carried out in a safe, economic and efficient manner.
  • Ensures operational compliance to all IESO Market Rules and specifically the Ontario Reliability Compliance Program (ORCP)
  • Provides leadership and support to all employees engaged in the day-to-day activities of operating the distribution network to maintain a safe, reliable and efficient supply of electricity
  • Manages department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget
  • Researches, recommends, and implements new or enhanced policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Develop and strengthen cross functional relationships with other Business Units within Alectra
  • Prepares annual budget estimates for System Control and administers the allotted budget within the approved corporate system including review and/or authorization of purchasing requests in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • Ensures adherence to and effective administration of the Collective Agreement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

Education & Specialized Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Membership in Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
  • Valid class G driver’s license.
  • Extensive knowledge of integrated electrical systems, distributed energy resources, SCADA, GIS, and OMS.
  • Familiarity with Electrical Utility safety rules, Utility Work Protection Code, and relevant regulations (OEB, PIPEDA, OHSA).
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in a managerial or senior leadership role within a utility.
  • Proven track record of building relationships with stakeholders, regulators, and governing bodies.
  • Experience in a unionized utility environment is advantageous.

  • Proven ability to implement and drive strategic objectives.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex information effectively.

  • Expert conflict resolution and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and address critical issues.
