What You'll Be Doing

The Senior Financial Analyst on the Canadian Banking Controllership team is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the financial and management information used for financial reporting and business analysis. This role is primarily accountable for maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger and overseeing the month-end general ledger close activities within tight timelines. More specifically, the Senior Financial Analyst will manage large datasets, perform journal entries, reconciliations and complete in-depth root cause investigation of variances.

This role will support the team by responding to ad-hoc questions, requests, and project initiatives as needed. Additionally, it will engage with both internal and external auditors to promptly manage responses to their inquiries and artifact requests. It is essential to stay current on emerging finance best practices and innovative tools to drive continuous improvement in our processes and deliverables, both for our team and the bank.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Problem Solving – you persist to investigating and understanding end-to-end processes beyond our team in order to identify gaps and recommend optimal solutions for the bank.
  • Manage monthly and quarterly close processes - including critical review of journal entries and financial results. Providing proactive communication of variances and issues to minimize surprises during the general ledger close process. Ensuring accounting entries are completed timely and accurately.
  • Communication skills – you possess the ability to prepare and present financial information effectively, articulating issues and proposing recommendations based on your analysis and assessment of financial results. Maintain close working relationship with your business partners and broader Finance teams
  • Ensure Finance-owned SOX controls (including suspense accounts) are operating effective to manage risk exposures. Weaknesses and deficiencies are escalated and remediated as appropriate.
  • Operational excellence – you drive continuous improvements that strengthen controls and streamline operational processes.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate knowledge in financial and management accounting, proficiency in accounting applications such as Oracle BI, SAP, Peoplesoft, have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and is comfortable handling large dataset. It's an asset if you have good understanding of IFRS accounting standards and financial controls.

  • You’re a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing (or are working towards) a designation in a relevant field of study e.g. CPA, CFA
