Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Professional Practice, the Manager of Professional Practice – Allied Health (Therapy Services) is a corporate leadership role at the Brant Community Healthcare System. They will lead and manage a team to support practice excellence. Will support and guide the development of our health discipline team, including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, OT/PT Assistants, Speech Language Pathologists, Registered Dietitians, and the support staff. The Manager acts in an advisory capacity regarding interdisciplinary professional practice issues that impact on the delivery of high quality, person-centred care and service. The Manager will collaborate with clinical and support leaders, to work on initiatives targeting improvements in healthcare quality, safety, and patient experience.

This position is integral in leading a culture of practice excellence and accountability, practice guidelines, evidence-informed practices, implementing and evaluating complex change processes, patient safety and quality initiatives. The Manager, Professional Practice – Allied Health provides leadership within the Professional Practice portfolio with direct reports, while acting as a resource and advisor to the organization on allied health professional practice matters.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages the hospital therapy resources (Human, Financial, and Physical) to deliver effective, efficient and safe patient care
  • Provide visionary leadership to guide and support clinical staff in delivering evidence-based and patient-centred care
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, professional growth, and innovation within the hospital
  • Engage with leadership, educators, and professional practice leads to support cross organizational initiatives across the OHT to standardize and support transitions in care and new system partners
  • Collaborate with educational institutions and external partners to identify and leverage opportunities for allied health student and staff development
  • Monitor and assess clinical practices to ensure compliance with established standards, protocols, and regulations
  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to identify areas for improvement and support the development, implementation, and analysis of initiatives to enhance the quality and safety of patient care, including patient flow
  • Working with Labour Relations, Therapy Team Leads, and Clinical Managers, will contribute to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of learning plans to improve clinical practice and assess staff competency and make recommendations regarding clinical practice for allied health team members
  • Support and provide leadership to organizational clinical policy development related to interprofessional practice
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational initiatives through assessment and feedback mechanisms
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in the healthcare research, technology, and best practices, MOHLTC regulatory/practice directives or changes and updates
  • Lead initiatives to integrate evidence-informed practices into clinical workflows and decision-making processes
  • Collaborate with various healthcare disciplines to promote interprofessional teamwork and enhance patient outcomes
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to interprofessional teams, fostering communication and knowledge-sharing
  • Actively participate in committees as required
  • Ensure adherence to provincial and national regulatory standards and guidelines related to clinical practice, professional development, and education of therapy team members
  • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages staff engagement, empowerment, and satisfaction
  • Provide guidance and support to resolve clinical practice-related challenges
  • Participate in initiatives that support ongoing recruitment and retention for allied health professionals

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, College of Dietitians of Ontario, or College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario is required
  • Master’s degree in education, Leadership, or Management an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive clinical and leadership experience in a hospital setting (full time equivalent)

Mandatory Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire interprofessional teams, drive change, mentor, and facilitate collaboration
  • Expertise in professional practice standards, related legislation, regulatory, and healthcare accreditation requirements
  • Experience in teaching, professional development, e-learning and principles of adult education
  • Familiarity with concepts of evaluation, evidence-informed practice and research required
  • Experience in geriatric or senior friendly care initiatives an asset.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed with demonstrated ability to provide leadership within and across an interprofessional team in complex adaptive systems
  • Demonstrated excellent presentation, project management and organizational skills required.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem solving, and interpersonal skills that will cultivate relationships amongst the multidisciplinary team
  • Project management knowledge and experience
  • Working knowledge of healthcare legislation required
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
  • Proficient in using technology for educational purposes and data analysis
