The BC Cancer - Vancouver Cancer Centre Is Pleased To Announce An Opportunity For a Medical Oncology Melanoma And Immuno-Oncology Fellowship. BC Cancer Provides a Comprehensive Cancer Control Program For The People Of BC In Partnership With Regional Health Authorities. BC Cancer’s Mandate Covers The Spectrum Of Cancer Care, From Prevention And Screening, To Diagnosis, Treatment, And Through To Rehabilitation. Our Mandate Is Driven By a Three-fold Mission
The overall goal of the BC Cancer Fellowship training program is to develop knowledge and experience in the field of Melanoma and Immuno-oncology. It is the intention of the program that trainees will develop an understanding of the general fundamental principles, in order to provide a strong foundation for further work and training within the field. There are also many research opportunities, with a strong focus on gaining research skills and experience. Learning during the fellowship program is focused around broad categories including: medical knowledge, patient care, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism and educational and research activities.

- To reduce the incidence of cancer
- To reduce the mortality rate of people with cancer
- To improve the quality of life of people living with cancer
The overall goal of the BC Cancer Fellowship training program is to develop knowledge and experience in the field of Melanoma and Immuno-oncology. It is the intention of the program that trainees will develop an understanding of the general fundamental principles, in order to provide a strong foundation for further work and training within the field. Learning during the fellowship program is focused around broad categories including: medical knowledge, patient care, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism and educational and research activities.
The General Educational Objectives For Fellows Are As Follows
- Understand the basic pathophysiologic principles of melanoma and other skin cancers;
- Develop the clinical skills and expertise necessary for the care of melanoma patients;
- Develop an understanding of the monitoring, diagnosis and management patients with melanoma;
- Gain experience using Immuno-Oncology agents, including immune checkpoint inhibitors, bispecific T-cell engagers, and other novel agents;
- Develop the clinical skills to effectively detect and manage the novel toxicities associated with Immuno-Oncology agents, including immune-related adverse events and cytokine release syndrome;
- Develop interpersonal and communication skills required for effective patient management and education;
- Participate in journal clubs, morbidity and mortality conferences, and case rounds;
- Participate in clinical, translational or basic research in Melanoma and Immuno-Oncology.

- Specific educational requirements include;
- Medical Degree
- Medical Council of Canada Examinations
- Postgrad training program - subspecialty
- Demonstrated deep understanding of their personal learning journey related to Indigenous-specific racism and dismantling systems of oppression, as well as addressing racism more broadly. Able to articulate and share this journey to motivate and inspire others.
- Knowledge of the social, economic, political realities of settler-colonialism and impacts on Indigenous peoples in social and health contexts as well as knowledge and understanding of, and commitment to upholding legislative obligations and provincial commitments in the foundational documents: Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study, and the Distinctions Based Approach.
- Brings an understanding of the Indigenous specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure and has demonstrated initiatives in breaking down barriers and ensuring a safe environment ensuring a sense of belonging to all and informed by Indigenous Cultural Safety.
- Awareness of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (the Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
