JOB DESCRIPTION - Financial Accountant

Job Summary

Roofmart’s National Support Centre in Brampton, ON is the hub that provides shared service support to multiple branches and legal entities across Canada. As part of the National Support Centre, this role is one of several Senior Financial Analysts and Financial Accountants working jointly to provide financial support to our branches. The role reports to the Assistant Controller.

As a key member of our Finance Team, the Financial Accountant (“FA”) is both a critical control point for our cash activities and a key contributor to the accuracy and integrity of our financial results through active management of balance sheet accounts.

Responsibilities

• Daily bank reconciliations for multiple branches, ensuring point of sale transactions match overnight deposits made to the bank and timely identification and escalation of discrepancies
• Point of contact for all banking activities, collaborating with the Credit & Collections team to identify and direct customer payments
• Timely completion of monthly bank reconciliations for multiple legal entities
• Responsibility for a variety of balance sheet accounts, ensuring completeness, accuracy and appropriateness of balances reflected in them
• Monitoring of subledger to general ledger reconciliations to ensure integrity in reporting
• Completion of monthly and quarterly intercompany reconciliations, liaising with finance partners within the Roofmart group of companies and with related parties outside of the group to identify and resolve any discrepancies
• Management of capital asset accounts, including asset purchases, sales and recording depreciation expense
• Responsibility for sales and income tax installments and reporting
• Work closely with Senior Financial Analysts to ensure areas under their responsibility are seamlessly integrated into results
• Support year end audits and tax filings

• Require adherence to accounting and company policies
• Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
• Ensure compliance with accounting principles
  
  

Performance Measure

• Timely completion of daily bank reconciliations with immediate identification and addressing of potential discrepancies
• Timely completion of monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet analysis to support a 5 day close
• Identification of continuous process improvements
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team with common goals
• Timely remittances of income and sales tax instalments and monitoring/managing timely receipt of refunds
  
  

Skills And Experience

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in progress
• Proven experience: minimum 2 years of full cycle accounting
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong problem solving skills
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Experience with end to end financial close processes
• Experience working with ERP systems (Prophet 21, MS Dynamics an asset)
• Advanced MS Excel skills (e.g. Pivot Tables, V Lookups)
