Position Summary

Reporting to the Clinical Manager of the Educators, the primary role of the Clinical Educator is to support the delivery of quality patient care and excellence in professional and clinical nursing practice. This position will support Oncology, IMRAC, LDAP/ Respirology, Pulmonary Function Lab, Fracture Clinic, IV Team, and Diabetic Education.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education or a healthcare discipline from an accredited University program or in progress is required.
  • Current registration with a regulatory healthcare body in good standing.
  • Previous experience as a Nurse Clinician or Nurse Educator is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Oncology is required.
  • Experience in patient education and health teaching including the ability to apply principles of adult learning, contract learning experiences with healthcare providers and develop learning objectives.
  • Minimum of 2 years current experience in an outpatient setting
  • Leadership and Management certification training an asset.
  • Member of CNAO (Canadian Nurses Association in Oncology) preferred.
  • Member of RNAO (Registered Nurses Association of Ontario) preferred.
  • CNA (Canadian Nurses Association) Certification preferred.
  • Current Chemotherapy certification required (deSouza or equivalent oncology certification)
  • Certification in I.V., Venipuncture & CVAD management required.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate required.
  • Experience and knowledge with RNAO BPGs- preferred.
  • Membership with CVAA, INS- preferred.
  • Demonstrated ongoing educational and professional development.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teaching, and presentation skills.
  • Expert critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs to meet the educational and professional needs of staff.
  • Effective September 7th, 2021, all applicants must provide proof of two doses for full vaccination against Covid-19 (in the form of watermark receipts from the provincial portal) or provide written proof of a medical or religious reason for not being fully vaccinated as per Organization Policy, Covid-19 Immunization and Management.

Nursing Education Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides in-services, on unit, and continuing education for program staff.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates specific educational programs to meet the identified learning needs.
  • Assists in the development of patient teaching programs.
  • Conducts education needs assessments for the purpose of targeted education strategies and programs.

Professional Practice Primary Responsibilities

  • Assists with policy and procedure development/revisions when standards of care change to facilitate evidence-based practice.
  • Collaborates with Leadership regarding skills assessment as a support to Development/Learning Plans
  • Assists in the prioritization of the learning needs of Unit staff.
  • Establishes a communication strategy for healthcare providers to inform all shareholders of related policy, practice, or process changes.
  • Ensures that regulatory changes, issues, and initiatives that impact professional practice are identified, discussed, and directed appropriately for follow up through the program.
  • Recommendations on matters related to professional practice, education and research, quality improvement, professional advocacy, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.

Quality Lead Primary Responsibilities

  • Continually upgrades expertise by attending seminars, workshops, conferences, community committee meetings and educational courses.
  • Remains up to date with best practice guidelines and best practice related to programs.
