MASTER - HARBOUR / COASTAL TUG FLEET
Atlantic Towing Limited is a well-established Marine Company with a diverse fleet of Harbour, Coastal/Deep Sea Tugs, as well as, Offshore Supply Vessels with locations in Saint John, New Brunswick, Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John's, Newfoundland.

We are currently accepting applications for a Master with a 500 Gross Tonnage, Near Coastal

The Master is overall responsible for the safe, environmentally sound and efficient operation of the vessel.

The Master has the overriding authority to make decisions with respect to the safety of the vessel and personnel aboard, the protection of the environment and cargo and to request the company’s assistance as may be necessary.

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the Master also assumes the responsibilities of the Chief, Second and Junior Officers on vessels that do not carry other Deck Officers. Some of these responsibilities may be delegated to other crewmembers, as deemed appropriate.

The Vessel’s Master shall report all matters that affect or may affect safety or the environment to the Designated Person Ashore (DPA).

Responsibilities:
- The implementation of Atlantic Towing Limited Policies and Management System requirements on board and motivation of the crew in the observance of the safety and environmental protection policy;
- Issuing orders in a clear and concise manner;
- Observing that the navigation of the vessel and day–to–day conduct of shipboard operations are carried out in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner in accordance with applicable standards and regulations, good seamanship practices and company policies and procedures;
- Ensuring that a planned maintenance program is implemented and executed so that the vessel and her equipment are maintained in a proper condition, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, industry practices and additional requirements of Atlantic Towing Limited;
- Monitoring the vessel’s certification status and maintain an up–to–date file of the vessel’s certificates
- Reporting accidents/incidents, hazardous situations and nonconformities;
- Ensuring that the vessel’s crew and emergency equipment are maintained in a high state of readiness to respond effectively to potential emergency situations; Muster Lists developed and posted and regular emergency drills conducted to identify areas where improvements can be made;
- Implementation of personnel–related procedures and arrangements, including proper sign–on of all crew, maintenance of the Articles of Agreement, verifying that all crew carry updated certificates of competency, training and medical fitness, performance appraisals, identification of training needs and provision of onboard training, crew discipline, etc;
- At specified intervals, preparing and submitting to the office the required management and performance reports, i.e. Change of Command, QHSE Reviews/Verifications, etc;
- Where applicable, responsible for the implementation of the Vessel Security Plan, including crew training and familiarization, maintenance of relevant records, inspection and testing of security equipment and observance of security procedures and arrangements;
- Ensuring that all documents and records relevant to the QHSE System are maintained in accordance with established procedures, identifiable, easily retrievable and legible;
- Contribute to ATL’s Safety culture by:
- Understand and comply with various safety processes within the Safety Management System;
- Possess the skills to perform job related tasks and apply safe practices while performing physical tasks;
• Have a thorough understanding of precautions and procedures related to the Safety Management System;
• Have thorough understanding of pollution regulations and the company’s objectives regarding environmental protection.

Mandatory Training and Certification Requirements
- Certificate of Competency that complies with Flag State requirements for trading area and STCW endorsement;
- GMDSS;
- Marine Emergency Duties;
- Transport Canada Marine Medical
- Marine First Aid & CPR;
- H2S Alive
- WHMIS;
- 5 years experience as Master in a relevant field or one level below, or where applicable completion of a relevant training/simulator program;
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate (TDG);
- Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibilities (Offshore Fleet).
Qualifications:
• Years of Experience
o Required: 7-10 years
o 5 years experience as Master in a relevant field or one level below, or where applicable completion of a relevant training/simulator program
• 500 Ton Command Endorsement Certificate
• Certificate of Competency that complies with Flag State requirements for trading area and STCW endorsement
• GMDSS - GOC
• Marine Emergency Duties (including MED Refreshers)
• Transport Canada Marine Medical
• Marine Basic or Advanced First Aid and CPR
• WHMIS
• Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate (TDG)
