Community Schools Program (CSP)

The Community Support Worker supports the capacity of schools as hubs within communities to strategically gather and deploy school-community services and resources in ways that attain better outcomes for students, families and surrounding neighborhoods.

Responsibilities May Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Student School Readiness
  • Increase family, community and student engagement
  • facilitate and/or coordinate workshops or support to groups, parenting skills and other student needs;
  • Support families of students who have attendance issues;
  • refer and/or facilitate learners access to resources in the community, social services, professional services and government programs;
  • advocate for clients with institutions, landlords, etc.;
  • maintain client records and provide continual updates to Principals, Vice Principals and teachers;
  • Create and/or facilitate programs to support well-being and success;
  • participate in networking and coalition building with teachers and the wider community;
  • perform other related duties within this classification and other related classifications not exceeding skills and capabilities, as required.
  • continually assess and address ongoing needs;

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in an area of study related to human services is an asset;
  • Demonstrated successful leadership experience and the ability to lead groups in small and large settings;
  • Experience working with adults would be an asset, ex. parent workshops;
  • Experience applying computer/technology skills;
  • Ability to produce proposals, reports, using data;
  • Experience working with Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups is required;
  • An understanding of “The Land, The People, and The Stories” in the context of working with Indigenous families
  • A knowledge and understanding of the various relevant population groups within the Winnipeg School Division is preferred;
  • Experience working with the students, families and communities of the Winnipeg School Division is preferred;
  • Knowledge of child development an asset;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Ability to collaborate with school staff and provide support;
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • High level of initiative and effective time management skills;
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours of work;
  • Positions may include driving between schools and partnerships;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
