The Opportunity
The Climate Resilience Branch of the Ministry of Environment is seeking a motivated and experienced individual for the position of Resilience Specialist. Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Reporting within the Adaptation and Resilience Analysis Unit, this position supports development of innovative climate resilience opportunities in Saskatchewan that optimize sustainable growth and adaptation in the face of climate change.
Major responsibilities include:
- Providing subject matter expertise and regionally relevant research and synthesis on climate resilience topics spanning climate adaptation, emissions management, and carbon accounting;
- Developing and curating resilience reporting including researching potential resilience indicators and actions pertinent to Saskatchewan;
- Coordinating amongst government and non-government stakeholders on the development, implementation and monitoring of resilience indicators, policies and programs;
- Translating technical results into compelling data visualizations, information summaries, and web-ready elements to succinctly explain and illustrate climate resilience work;
- Preparing timely written and verbal analysis and advice regarding resilience issues, opportunities, and analysis results;
- Supporting research and technical analyses within the unit, as required; and
- Serving as a subject matter representative as required on ministry, government, and national committees.
Success in this position requires knowledge of climate adaptation, carbon emissions management, data management and analysis techniques, stakeholder engagement, and research and data visualization methods.
The successful candidate will have highly honed research skills and be adept at compiling, organizing, and synthesizing large volumes of complex information, literature, and data. The ability to provide timely, audience-appropriate communication of technical details in plain language is critical for success in this role. The ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with staff from other areas of the ministry, other ministries, other provincial and federal agencies, and external stakeholders is also central to this position. The successful candidate will be comfortable with assessing and adjusting work focus to complete tasks in a continuously changing environment with rapidly shifting priorities and objectives.
Experience in climate resilience research and management in the Saskatchewan context, and demonstrated graphic arts skill in preparing data visualizations and infographics will be considered assets.
Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required to be successful in this position would have been obtained through a graduate education in a transdisciplinary program such as sustainability management or resource economics, supplemented by professional experience in technical research, stakeholder engagement, and information translation especially as it pertains to climate resilience.

This position is located in Regina. This position requires travel including staying overnight in locations away from home. The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel, at times to remote locations, and be in possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
