Located in N.E. Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services. The PLC has over 600 inpatient beds, including Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Women’s Health and Critical Care. The PLC is the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan and Southeastern British Columbia. The Allied Health Department at the PLC is comprised of Rehabilitation, Social Work and Spiritual Care staff. These staff work as vital members of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care throughout the hospital. Under general supervision from the Clinical Leader and Allied Health management the successful candidate will gain experience in the assessment, treatment, education and management of patients across a variety of areas including general medicine, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, intensive care and vascular surgery including amputee rehabilitation. At all times the Occupational Therapist I will ensure that his/her practice is evidence-based and meets occupational therapy clinical standards of practice. To be successful in this role, you will possess an understanding of how patients and family are at the center of care strategies to build inclusive environments that reflect the needs and supports required for the populations that we serve (ethno-cultural, equity-seeking, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons of all age groups).

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Experience working in a large, urban acute care setting within the last 5 years. Job demands: A high level of physical effort is required related to clinical caseload. Includes maintaining a standing position, perform up to a medium level of work (20-50lbs handled occasionally) including bending and/or rotation related to client transfers or therapeutic intervention. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with members of the interdisciplinary team, patients and families in a dynamic health care setting. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload to keep pace in a busy multi-disciplinary patient care. Demonstrates behaviours consistent with the values of AHS - Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Safety.

Experience in the following areas preferred: Orthopedics, General Medicine, and Critical Care. Experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e. ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.). Previous training in Connect Care an asset.
