Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey’s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Integrated Planning team supports all Site Operations and asset repair requirements to maintain a safe and productive operation. Direct engagement with various departments allows the team to efficiently plan and organize required work scopes for all aspects of installations, repairs, and modifications to site assets.

The Opportunity

Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.

Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Planner to join our Integrated Planning department in Voisey’s Bay, NL. This is a permanent position.

This position is based at the Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation.

The Mechanical Maintenance Planner will support our Utilities Maintenance department at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site. The Mechanical Maintenance Planner will work closely with all areas of maintenance and operations to ensure work is planned, scheduled, and ready for safe and accurate execution. The Mechanical Maintenance Planner will ensure adequate utilization of resources, labour, and materials.

Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Ensure that work plans are designed to safely operate without impact to employees, the business, the environment, the community, and the regulators.
  • Establish and communicate work schedules and verify that schedules satisfy daily and long-term requirements.
  • Assemble ready to execute job packages.
  • Identify and escalate all critical issues that threaten the successful execution of work orders to meet completion deadlines.
  • Improve the efficiency of the planning process by developing and using standard jobs as templates.
  • Assist the team in achieving the overall area targets.
  • Work collaterally and cross functionally, with colleagues, engineering, production, and services.
  • Ensures all work is following stated procedures.
  • Utilize Safe Production tools in field discussions and exhibit behaviors of Safe Production and consider how to consistently reduce risk to As Low as Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) when executing tasks.
  • Utilize Work Management systems, and escalate to the appropriate authority, if schedules cannot be achieved within quantity and/or quality parameters.
  • Complete Work Management reports to communicate status to management team.
  • Manage costs within Work Management system and escalate as required.
  • Relieve in the Maintenance Supervisor role as required.
  • Develop planning skills in the work crew for temporary replacement and succession.
  • Assist in the development and utilization of SAP.

About You

Education:

  • Post-secondary education is required.
    • Interprovincial Red Seal in Millwright, Pipefitting, or another Mechanical discipline is preferred.

Experience:

  • 5 – 7 work experience in Maintenance Supervision, Maintenance Planning, or a closely related discipline in a heavy industrial or mining environment.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of power generation, conveyors, pumps, vessels, and piping systems. would be an asset.
  • Strong digital literacy skills (SAP, Microsoft Office Suite, computerized work management systems).
  • Able to make decisions and prioritize work.
  • Able to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding Asset Management concepts and systems.
  • Knowledge of codes, ability to read prints and schematics.
